Former President Donald Trump expressed his disappointment on Friday about the lack of findings from an inquiry into the roots of the FBI’s investigation into his 2016 presidential campaign, which Trump had hoped would expose the origins of the investigation.
Trump chastised Special Counsel John Durham, who was assigned the task of investigating how the so-called “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation into Trump’s campaign started while working as a US attorney in 2019.
“Can you tell me where Durham is?” Is he a true, living human being? Is there going to be a Durham report? According to Fox News, Trump said in a tweet.
Trump has previously stated that he thinks high-ranking Obama administration officials were aware of the investigation.
“By far the most heinous political crime in American history!” According to The Guardian, Trump said in a 2020 tweet that former President Barack Obama “used his last weeks in office to threaten incoming officials and undermine the new administration,” echoing a theory from conservative talk show host Buck Sexton that Obama “used his last weeks in office to target incoming officials and sabotage the new administration.”
Durham resigned as U.S. attorney for Connecticut as part of the transition to President Joe Biden’s presidency, but was retained as a special counsel.
During his confirmation hearings, Garland declined to say whether or not he would allow Dunham to continue to have full influence over his investigation.
According to The Epoch Times, Garland said, “My perspective on any investigation is that I have to know the truth before I can make these kinds of decisions or commitments.”
“However, as I said at the hearing, I understand Mr. Durham has been allowed to keep his job and continue his investigation. And I have no reason to believe the decision was wrong at this time.”
Former National Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe said there was “strong proof” that the report about Russian collusion was a hoax.
“We went over the intelligence last summer, and we all unanimously accepted that there was no intelligence from the intelligence community that represented true, real Russian collusion with the Trump campaign, but there was intelligence that it was created by the Hillary Clinton campaign, and there was no proper predicate for Crossfire Hurricane to start,” Ratcliffe said in early March.
Durham, he predicted, will have significant revelations, he said.
“I expect the Durham report to be yet another scathing account of FBI violations — abuses of authority. Ratcliffe said, “I claim that because I checked the intelligence with John Durham and Bill Barr.”
“I fully expect the Durham study to address the misuse of power because I am familiar with that intelligence.”
Former Attorney General William Barr said in December that Durham was making “real progress.”
